Hi everyone,

And here's the very latest from Parker/Carboni - the massive emission nebula (including the famous elephant's trunk) - IC1396 in Cepheus. Why doesn't this huge nebula have a "popular" name? I have no idea.

This is a two-frame mosaic taken with the Sky 90/SXVF-M25C combination using full colour and H-alpha data.

Total exposure time - 19 hours.
Total image processing time - 16 hours.

Enjoy,
Greg

Thank you Bob - very glad you like it :)
As a teaser - and so that you keep checking out the site - I am waiting for Noel to process a 2-framer I did of the whole of the Veil nebula - and this was done in colour + H-alpha + OIII and is a total exposure time of 32 hours (so will probably be about the same processing time!!).
I have a feeling that when this one comes out - it will be a landmark image.
Greg

.
I will be waiting eagerly. 32 hours total exposure is seriously heavy duty. When you post I'll be interested to hear roughly how that was split up into observing sessions and how many days/weeks/months it took!

Bob.

Hi Bob,
As I have my log book on my lap I'll write it down now:

6 July RGB upper veil 85.0 mins
7 July RGB upper veil 160 mins
4 Aug RGB upper veil 217.5 mins
6 Aug RGB upper veil 262.5 mins
29 Aug H-alpha upper veil 220 mins
3 Sept OIII upper veil 200 mins
4 Sept OIII lower veil 200 mins
6 Sept H-alpha lower veil 80 mins
7 Sept H-alpha lower veil 200 mins
10 Sept RGB lower veil 292.5 mins

Crickey - looking back on that lot - yes I am nuts!

Greg
