Okay, don't laugh. I don't have your fancy shmancy tracking rigs, telescopes or anything, just a D90 with a tripod, hooked up to my laptop for easy focusing. Lens used is the kitlens (18-105 VR F3.5-5.6).

I shot 2 images, cropped the moon shot. Then I blended the stars in the background, desaturated them and increased the blacks. Hope you like it

You don't need a fancy rig for the moon and this was very well done.

That's a nice result, although have you ensured there's absolutely no stars in the shadowed section of the moon?

It looks like there might be 1 star in the moons shadow which would mean the star is in front of the moon. Remove that one and you got a nice shot there. Cant wait to try it out when I get my D90
