I took this a couple months ago with my 50D and a 10-22mm lens while camping with my Boy Scouts. Now that I am on the forums I thought I'd see what you all thought.

That's pretty cool! What kind of software did you use to stack the images? I think the exposure is really good.

No stacking, actually. I just did a curve boost and NR in DPP and fixed a couple very small glare artifacts from the fire using iPhoto and that was it. 30 seconds open wide can really gather a lot of light.

The biggest challenge was dealing with a few hot pixels that were in the image. The 50D has a long exposure NR option that also takes a dark frame and combines the regular and dark frames in the camera for NR. That pretty much solved the problem.

Really nice shot - I love capturing the night sky with something in the foreground to give it some context.

Nice shot. I love that you can see the Milky Way. Was there a camp fire or other artificial light used for the trees?

Great shot bpwc! I think it might have been even better wihout the campfire , that does distract a lot from that great sky, but like this, it's a very good photo as well!
