This was mine first attempt to paint using light. I was hunting for small LED to write but rather found that there is small red light indicator on my Nikon SB-600 flash. This was good enough to write. When I started, I was so off in writing as you are writing in dark and and with no upper and lower limits. But anyways after nearly 30 attempts, I got one decent. As I said, this was my first attempt and might try more in future, may be with sparkles.

im gonnna have a go at this now!!! was it jsut a case of keeping the shutter open manually ? do you need to use a particular F/ ? thanks

Yes, just keep shutter open for longer period.. if not bulb mode, then at least for 15-20 seconds. Aperture doesn't really matter here but I went with f5 to let in max light so that lines weren't too thin. And stand in front of camera when releasing shutter, as it will try to auto focus using AF lamp and when light from AF lamp falls on you, it detects and keeps focus for that focal plane. So your writing is also more or less in focus and not blurred.
