well i think its quite the same scenario. No light just the strobes etc..What i was working with was the prime (50mm f/1.

, and 35mm f/2 it all depended on the club the bigger ones i would grab the 50 and at the smaller ones i would use the 35. Why i chose the lenses are because they where the ones that let in most of the light at faster shutter speeds, working at ISO 200. Along with a external flash with a diffuser on it tilted to 45 degrease. The flash would capture the "people" and render some very interesting results in the background. Sometimes the light would come out a bit "tripp" when i bumped up the shutter speed a bit...
I dont knw if this helps...but i never taken "band/night" photography with anything but a DSLR...
