Just came back from the Malaysian Grand Prix! GO KIMI!!!! I've got to sort through over a 1000 pics(may take a while, exams) but here a few.

Heikki Kovaleinen

f/5.6, 1/500s

Nelson Piquet Jr.

f/6.3, 1/400s

Nick Heidfeld

f/7.1, 1/100s

The winner! - Kimi Raikkonen

f/8, 1/640

That fence was a real pain, it got into all my attempts at panning! This is my first attempt at motorsport photography and panning so obviously theres room for improvement. Any comments and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks guys! I thought I'd boost the colours since F1 cars are so colourful!

I agree rain would have made it more interesting, I always find F1 good anyway but as far as it goes it was a pretty uneventful race. I'm kinda glad the rain didn't come, anything that jeopardises Kimi's win is a no!

Alex, its not the fastest part of the circuit but the cars should be travelling in excess of 200km/h.

nice pics! these would seem to be the perfect examples of vertical only - image stabilitation, as in Gordon's workshop, am i right? the panning worked out great anyway.

cheers!

I rember it like it was yesterday the frist time i when to a F1 race, in Sao Paulo, ohh its was great i just got goose bumps every time a car when by bussing. Its a shame that you cant add the noise they make to the image :D

Yes Paukl, stabilisation for the vertical axis would have helped but the main problem for me was my inability to keep the camera moving with the car. I got them just as they started to brake and downshift(nice sound btw) so the speeds were a bit inconsistent.

Alex, I agree. No picture does the sound of an F1 car any justice.

Here's a couple more:

GP2 supporting race - the blue car later went on the grass bounced and while in the air, flew into the white car

McLaren in Q3, Hamilton + Kovalainen

.....and what's F1 without its fans?

Excellent shots mate, and from a fellow Kimi man. I'd like to get to Singapore for this years race as it's the first ever to be run at night. Can you say Global Warming, lol?

Thanks Zorro and HNV.

All that talk about energy saving devices and fuel efficiency from Max Mosley and then you get Ecclestone pushing for more races and at night too! F1 is pretty messed up these days.
