Close to 5,100 runners entered the 42 km (26 mile) marathon this year. I was around the half way mark hoping to capture the start of stress and perhaps pain on the runners. Three Kenyan males were first across the line and an Ethiopian female was first, Australian 2nd and a Japanese 3rd. Photo #1 was featured in our local paper.
There was also a $25,000 jackpot for the male winner if he equalled 2:10 time and $25K for the female winner to equal 2:30. The male winner missed out by 1 second but was awarded $10k, the female winner missed out by 8 seconds.
I shot the guy in Photo #2 last year which he described as gruesome but thanked me for it. This year was his 169 marathon and he bettered his time by 22 minutes. He said it was a better shot of him and he did not feel like what the photo captured as he felt quite relaxed and his heart beat was slow. Turns out he’s a professor at Victoria University.
