Camera Labs

Looking for recommendations/advise on the purchase of a new lense which will be used primarily for indoor action sports photograph (hockey).

Currently own a D90 and looking to purchase either a:

- Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG Macro HSM Autofocus Lens (77mm) for about US $800 or ...

- Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 ED "D" IF Lens (77mm) for about US $1,100

Your experience with either of these lenses would be appreciated.

As for experience: check out my review of the sigma 70-200 F/2.8! I have it, and I love it.

Simply put, the nikkor wins in terms of imagequality, but autofocus on the sigma is a lot faster, and is thus better for sports.

Nice camera that you own! And a 70-200/2.8 is surely the best complement for sports!
The Nikon 80-200mm is a little dated but still good. In your case I'd try the Sigma. But make sure you get a good copy and buy it somewhere without a prohibitive restocking fee.

D800+assorted lenses

I have the 80-200mm and though it is sharp
the AF is a little slow for sports
