Couple of days ago this happened.

When I was playing with my G9, in the eve I set on long exposure shot (4s) and mounted the cam on the tripod to capture the nice red sky and set it on.

All of a sudden (I live in a path of an airport) a plane came from nowhere in the middle of the scene. I was so sure the plane was captured on the shot but when I looked at it, this is what I've got. (crop of the original)

Since I do not know what's going on, Can someone please explain.

Plane was moving too fast for anything but the strong lights to leave an impression on the sensor.

Images like this are typically taken around Area 51. I do like the effect though.

He he hee... I too liked it, though I could not believe it!



I guess the plane appeared in the last few milliseconds of the long exposure shot, the shot was taken fully when the plane ended up where the lines ended. Guess most of the sky was already marked on the film where the plane should have been, though the sharp contrast of the lights cut through.

Still at least ghost image should be there I feel, any technical info on this?

It is- It is just extremely faint- can't be seen by the human eye. The plane itself does not show up because it only appears for a short amount of time, and it is not enough to show over the light in the other parts of the picture.

Try this - set up your camera near the street and set it to a pretty long exposure. When a car comes by, take a picture.

The same thing will happen- The light trails will be there, but not the blur of the car itself.

Or try something else of the sort. You could also try taking like a 1s exposure and try bouncing a rubber ball in front of the camera. When the picture comes out the ball won't be there or it will be very faint.

I had this same thing happen to me also. With a plane. I was confused also, At first I was kind of excited that it was going to be in the picture and then, no plane. wierd. But I do understand what your saying runnerdude154.

I tried to take a picture of my clock for 30 seconds for the "time" contest, I was going to see what the second hand would look like going through the exposure. When it was done, it wasn't very cool. barely seen anything.....so that idea wasn't good. lol
