Hi guys, I had a quick look at previous topics and i didnt really find any info to help me, and i had a quick look at the trules, so here goes..


Im really keen on taking some Rugby League photography, nothing professional, just as a hobby, if your not familiar to rugby league, the conditions would be similiar to football/soccer,

I am looking at either the Sony Alpha A100 or the Olypmus E510, the Sony has not really impressed me with these revies.. image quality.

(Olympus E510) I was really impressed with the noise of go-karts buzzing around a track at 80km/h (50m/h)

Do you know any other cameras for around the same price as the olympus that would be better?

for the price of the Oly 510 body alone you can get:
- Nikon D40x incl. lens
- Pentax K100D Super incl. DA 18-55mm and DA 50-200mm
- Canon EOS 400D plus EF-S 18-55mm 3.5–5.6
So there are enough alternatives to choose from...

All of those cams have a sensor that is twice as large as the Oly and thus capture twice the light!

And in-camera IS doesn't help, when shooting a fast paced sport. Then you need high ISO/low-noise, fast shutter speeds.

I'd suggest going for the D40x

Here are some pictures taking from a Rugby game with the Nikon D40X and Nikon 50-200mm VR lens, so you can decide for yourself. Keep in mind Im not a good photographers, but at least you can see the quality of the pictures.

The good thing with for example Canon 400d is that you get more Autofocus points which probably would help when taking Rugby pictures
