I have a D80 and I am looking into buying a zoom lens, however, I don't know which lens would be best for indoor and outdoor action pictures (concerned about lighting). I was thinking about the 18-200mm VR or 70-300mm VR. Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be these lenses, if you can recommend a better one.

For indoor you will need a faster lens than a 18-200 or a 70-300...
It also depends on what sports you want to shoot.
If you need the range I think the 80-200 f/2.8 will do the job, for wide angle (mostly extreme sports) I would take the 17-55 f/2.8 (both from nikon).
If budget is a concern sigma has the excellent 70-200 f/2.8 (which is better than the tamron alternative) and tamron has the 17-50 f/2.8 (which I personally own but haven't used yet because my camera was broken) that focuses a slightly slower than the nikon 17-55.
And again, it all depends on your budget.

Good luck.
