Gordon in the review you did with the 17-85 IS you gave optical quality 17 out of 25, and on the other review you did with the 17-55 and 17-40 you gave the 17-85 optical quality 19 out of 25, did you have a better copy this time, and the optical quality is that image quality your talking about or in general, because i have seen some very great pictures with the 17-85, thanks.

Hi, the score in the group test was relative to the kit lens. It refers to general optical quality.

Yes, the 17-85mm is a good lens, but as you can see in our tests it does suffer from quite pronounced geometirc distortion and light fall-off, especially when zoomed-out.

I still think it's the best general purpose zoom for EF-S compatible bodies though...
