Hi Raoul, there are some great plug ins for final cut and after effects which can render an extreme slomo effect, but the good ones aren't cheap.

Have a look at this video shot with the EOS 7D:

http://vimeo.com/17439665

The extreme slow motion is all special effects, done with a plug in called Twixtor. Before you get too excited, the slow motion rain is another special effect.

Gordon, I would like to thank you for all your reviews. It made my decision that much easier when I purchased my 5Dll. Your reviews and those of the other administrators of CameraLabs have become an extremely valuable source of information for all who are looking to buy new photographic equipment. Absolutely love this site.
Thanks again, TOM.

Probable spambot. Other posts are similar. Don't expect it to be around long.

Rumours still are there might or might not be something this year. Prices don't significantly drop regardless anyway. They might shuffle down slightly now and then, but the 5D2 is already at an all time low and I can't see it going much lower. Actually I just had a quick look, the best price in the UK has gone up £60 since I got mine. We're not talking one supplier either, they're all doing it.

It's very quiet on the 5D3 front. Even 'Canonrumors' has little in the way of irrelevant information:

http://www.canonrumors.com/category/pho ... -mark-iii/

5D2 pricing is pretty static at he moment and has been since September:

http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod728.html

The 5D2 body only has actually gone up in price:

http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod726.html

There will probably be firmer news around March or later. The expectancy is that a camera will be available for the Olympics, so a March announcement could be right.

Thanks for the info.

I've never seen that site before, looks like a useful tool.

I found a store called SLRhut selling the body for £1200, anybody used those?

Never heard of SLRhut before, but on a quick scan of their website I wouldn't be surprised if they're selling grey imports (they talk about prices being higher than they sell at in the US, and sourcing product worldwide), and I'm not sure if one point of their refund policy is within distance selling regulations. So I wouldn't touch them with a mail order sized barge poll. Maybe if you're passing their physical store it is worth a look. Oh, and prices on their website do not include VAT at 20%, add to basket to see the true total, which then is only competitive, as opposed to significantly cheaper.

I must admit, I did go on streetview and couldn't see their physical store. Maybe streetview was out of date, but regardless I'm not a fan of e-tailers that exclude VAT.

The used market should be more attractive.

In the USA, one very large, reputable retailer, Adorama, briefly dipped their 5D2 price under $2000 US, but the price has now returned to a few hundred over the $2K mark. The nearest local independent Canon dealer is selling the 5D2 for about $2400 US.

If you're able to buy from Canada, the body is $1999 CAD at Henry's Camera (which is usually much more expensive than buying from the US). I'm picking mine up either tomorrow or Tuesday :)

I got mine this afternoon!

I have to say, the ergonomics leave a lot to be desired after using my 7D for the last year or so... the shutter lag is noticeably longer than the 7D as well, but the image quality is just astounding. I can't wait for my new lenses to show up and to have some sunshine over the coming weeks to get out and get with the shooting :)

A small point worth mentioning... if anyone is currently contemplating grabbing this and can order from Henry's ($1999 CAD), the price is jumping back up to $2799 as of February 1st, 2012 so make up your minds sooner than later :)

The price is rising again. Now why should that be?

The 5D3 is expected to be announced around March this year. Maybe 5D2 production is being pegged back? Maybe some are getting concerned at what the 5D3 may be like and are going for the 5D2 while the price is 'low'?

Personally I agree with Plymer. With my 40D I could not get a 5D2 and be disappointed with the ergonomics. Quite possibly all those buying the 5D2 now will be disappointed that they didn't wait when the 5D3 comes out.

I am not someone who just buys the next upgrade. I would be looking for a significant improvement. The 5D2 is way behind the 7D on ergonomics. Surely the 5D3 will be a significant improvement?

As owner of both, there is hardly any difference between the 5D2 and 7D in ergonomics. There are small differences, but they are small. If you're used to the 40D/50D/7D format, you can pretty much jump straight into using a 5D2 without worrying about finding where buttons are and how it works.

The price going up can be for many different reasons. I wouldn't worry about short term fluctuations anyway, as it is the long term trend you're looking for. In the UK, there was a price drop blip when I bought the 5D2 which for whatever reason I think was sparked by Amazon UK selling it noticeably cheaper than everyone else, so they matched it. When Amazon put up the price again, so did the others. I don't know if it was only competition driving that dip or if the wholesale price really did drop for a bit.

While I don't doubt the 5D3 will be a better camera, the question will remain how much better is it, and at what cost? Not forgetting to factor in when you might eventually be able to get one.
