Camera Labs

I am thinking about getting a Flashgun for my Canon 400D have looked at all of the Canon models, don't like the small 220EX so it is a toss up between the 430EX, 580EX or the new 580EX II.
So which one should I choose, would like some positive/negative feedback from those of you on here that have one of these models or at least used them.... or does anyone know if any 3rd party make any as good.

Well, I'll be trying out a 580 EX II in a couple of weeks, so will let you know!

It can be a pain to lug around a big heavy flash, but as Thomas has said elsewhere in the forums, at least you'll have the maximum amount of light available. So I think if I had the budget, I'd always go for the most powerful flash available.

The Metz mecablitz 54 MZ-4 is quite good and powerful. Price is around 320EUR.
Check Metz out as a third party supplier.

D800+assorted lenses

Well... as you all can see by my signature have this morning bought the 430EX (£179 from Photo Optix) made the decision to buy a flashgun after we went to a 40th birthday party/disco on Saturday night and hade to use the built in flash and came away with about 60 c*** pictures out of about 70 taken.
Will let you all know how it performs on the next occasion where flash is needed.

Oh, that's a pity (60 out of 70)!
Was it that you had not enough light? Did you set the ISO to 800 or something, to increase the reach of the onboard flash? Did you fing the faces flat/dull?

Yes, light was very low just the lights from the disco of what there were not many and yes had the ISO cranked up to 800 but to no avail did think about pushing it to 1600 but then everything in the foreground would have been wiped out.
Never mind better luck next time only got 10 years to wait untill her 50th birthday party LOL
