Good Evening

I been planning to take the plunge and upgrade from the kit lens (that I mastered haha)

I am just wondering how this lens would respond/work on a XTi body

Canon 28-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM

1.6xcrop factor on it ?

I can get it used for 400$ canadian, which I think is a decent deal.

Hi jimmy, well you've hit the nail on the head - multiply the focal length by 1.6 times and ask yourself if it's the right range for you.

Personally speaking, it wouldn't be wide enough for me, but many people aren't bothered, or would supplement it with a wider lens...

thanks for the reply, I hate to ask a silly question, but I just dont know the answer to. Does the kit lens have the same crop factor ?

Hi Jimmy, yes, the crop factor is applied by the DSLR itself becuase of the size of its sensor.

So the 400D / XTi will effectively multiply the focal length of ALL lenses attached by 1.6 times. That's why you need a lens with a focal length around 17 or 18mm in order to deliver a wide angle that's equivalent to about 28mm.

The situation's the same with most other DSLRs too though, except they generally have 1.5x factors. Nikon, Pentax and Sony all have 1.5x factors.

Four Thirds DSLRs like the Olympus models have 2.0x factors.
