Now that I have micro adjusted my 100-400 I am very happy with the 7D. Still need to figure out whether or not my other lenses need this too, but finally I can get all that I expected from my new awesome camera .

I am glad that things are now going well.

I just updated the firmware in my 7D cameras. I found a better on-line tutorial than I could find when I had tried earlier. It still took several tries, as the tutor's OS was different than my Sony netbook's Vista. Perhaps I may now develop the courage to try MFA, though my 7D that tends to front-focus a bit with several lenses is spot-on with my 100mm 2.8L Macro, and that is my most-used combo at work, so
I may leave well-enough alone.

After the updates, I had to re-set the clocks, and noticed that "My Menu" had been wiped clean. Now, I will have to re-learn how to move flash menu control into My Menu.

I am not very techie; more like an analog dinosaur.

Congrats on the purchase. I too am itching to upgrade from my 450D. Just came back from a destination wedding and had the chance to shoot with the photographer's backup camera (1D mk4). The 10fps was just amazing compared to my 3.5fps.

I will be debating whether to get a 50mm 1.4 mk2 or 7d mk2. Will have to wait and see. Still quite happy with my current 450D but it definitely shows its age.

Based on my research, the noise performance is really not much better between a 7D and 450D. It's very marginal at best. I am hoping the noise performance on the next generation APS-C will improve the noise to perhaps 1stop? Probably not going to be that much but we'll find out in a few months.

Noise does not seem to disturb me, but perhaps it is because I have some fast lenses and powerful flashguns, both of which enable me to use fairly low ISO settings much of the time. I was mentored in DSLR use by my wife, when she had a county-issued Nikon D300s and Nikon SB-800 flashgun. I then started using a pre-owned ensemble acquired from one of my wife's friends, a Canon XTi (400D) with a 580EX flashgun and several lenses, one of which, a Tokina 2.8 macro, is fairly fast, and I soon acquired a 50mm EF 1.8. Within a few months, I had upgraded to a 40D and my first 7D, and my first L lens.

On the other hand, I have yet to acquire a large monitor, so maybe I do not know what I do not know.

It would, indeed, be very nice, of course, if the anticipated 7D Mark II has lower noise at higher ISO. I am hoping more for better AF performance in low light, on the level of the 6D or better, as the 6D's low-light AF seems to best-in-class at present. Of course, I could just buy a 6D, but prefer the ergonomics and controls of the 7D/5D3 bodies, and the 6D's AF performance advantage in low light is, if I recall correctly, only with the center AF point.

There's no doubt the 7D is better than the 450D in every way. But solely speaking noise performance under lowlight, the advantage is very minimal to warrant an upgrade. Users that upgrade to 7D are looking for fast shooting, better focus, better build, better viewfinder, option to micro-adjust focusing, etc.

My priority for a replacement are: noise performance, focus speed\accurate and build. I would love a 7DII that has 1/2 stop better iso performance than the 450D. Unfortunately, FF is not an option at this point.
