Hi there! I'm an amateur photographer, and a film maker at the same time. How would you recommend these two cameras? Thanks.

For stills, I would personally go for the 60D but for video I would pick the 650D largely because of the AF during video for the latter though that requires STM lenses.

I'm no expert but the t4i is not that good at the continuous auto focus, Dave dugdale from learning dslr video highlights this well. Personally the 60D would be better, I say this because of battery life, the battery life is defiantly better in terms of stills so I assume its better for video too. I also think ergonomicly it would be better if you put fast primes on it in the future due to better lens to body balance. Plus if you want to use it for stills as well which you probably will end up doing, the 60d will be better there.

For fast moving subjects, I'd definitely agree. I have used the 650D and with subjects that move slowly out of focus, the AF is OK but if it does so quickly, it doesn't really cope.

I guess it depends on the style of filming.

The Movie Servo mode and STM lenses aren't designed for speed. In fact, is exactly the opposite: they are designed for slow, smooth, quiet operation. i.e. "filmmaking".

Also note that ergonomics/balance are a wash once you trick out either camera for filmmaking. (i.e. add a cage, follow focus, matte box, external monitor, shoulder mount, etc.)

Having said that, for filmmaking, I think the Panasonic GH2, which has been on sale for as little as $499 recently, is a much better value, especially once it's hacked.

Well - it works with normal lenses as well; they are just not as smooth as STM lenses.

Both the images and the video mode are pretty similar - still I guess I'd prefer the 650D / T4i apart from the battery and the 60D's bigger grip.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the main thing about the 650D is that it can auto-focus with video, vs the 60D that is manual focus only.
STM lenses are specifically designed for this application, but it is not meant for fast moving subjects.

For fast moving subjects, you will have to use manual focusing, but that is with either camera.

So the question is do you want some instances where the camera will focus for you in video or not?

If you need make film, go for T4i. The T4i is better at Video
