Hello guys! I am retiring my kit lens and buy a new one and as an upgrade also. As I searching, I found a lot of interesting lens and I came to a point that I am confuse. Can you guys comment on the following lens..

Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 vc or the non vc which is much cheaper
Sigma 17-50mm f2.8
Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 ---- I consider this bec. of the focal range

I have a Canon 500d and I'm just a casual photographer.. My subject is basically my family and everything around me..

Your comment is much appreciated.. Thank You..

Hi !
As long as you do not need the highest sharpness, but you want a good general purpose lens without too much photographyindoors, the 17-70 is a very good one. It offers stabilisation and a silent, quick AF motor. The Tamron 17-50 vr is not very good, the 17-50 is excellent (I own one and it's great), while the Sigma 17-50 is actually a bit better, it costs a lot more money.

I need to upgrade the kit lens, I mainly use the 50mm F/1.8 II and avoid it.

The 17-55 f/2.8 IS is the daddy of kit lens replacement lenses for Canon APS-C sensored DSLRs.

I am aware of that, but have heard that it retracts dust.
