I read the review on camera labs and a few other.

I have the samyang 8 mm, it's fun and you can do a lot of creative shots with it, but its just not sharp enough, so I don't use it when I need a really sharp image, its sort of a plaything.
So I was thinking of getting a circular or/and a regular one, but it's as expensive to get those two as it is to get the 8-15mm, and it looks like it's sharper.

But one thing is tests and reviews.

Does any of you actually own it?
BTW one shop have a mk2 version of it, but I can't find it anywhere else - it's one of those overpriced shops where the pro's buy their gear, so I don't think they would make something like that up.

I found with my Samyang it isn't sharp wide open, but stopped down it's pretty good. Also the focus scale on mine was way off as I received it, so correct focus helps there even if it has a massive depth of field.

The Canon fisheye zoom is also on my shopping list although I don't have experience with it. There's no mk2 of it that I'm aware of.

But does anyone know this lens?

I own it. Apart from the truly terrible lens hood/cap thing, which I cannot complain about enough, the lens itself is great. I use this lens for 360 photos plus I am using it for my current project, parismetrotrash.com, in circular fisheye mode.

Pretty sharp
solid build (minus the really awful lens cap/hood)

I was told by my canon rep when I bought it that canon would do something about the lens hood/cap problem (I sent him an email to complain). They did nothing as far as I am aware. So if you do get it, just ensure that you pack it tightly so the lens hood doe snot fall off and expose the lens. He did eventually offer to swap his lens hood/cap for mine, which I never bothered with as the problem is a universal one. Annoying.

I think I've got to own one of these, santa just might put one under the christmas tree this year.

It's a shame about the lens hood, why make what sounds like a fabulous lens and ruin the user experience with a horrible lens hood

I can see the shop has changed the name from versions II to calling it new, after I wrote them.
But they haven't answered my mail. I also wrote them asking about some gear, but they never answered, and I have tjecked my spam box.
My friend is a pro photographer and he buys all of his gear from them, so he recommended them because they were pro's and were good at guiding you, so you get the right gear and not just someone taken off the street trying to sell you anything. But since they don't answer mails I must admit their service is horrible and they are 10-30% pricier then other internet shops, actually I haven't found a more expensive one.

Horrible service and pricy - don't ever shop there!!.....

@ michael_g thanks, I am enjoying working on the project. Almost done now, so I will hopefully hit my self-imposed deadline of January to finish it.

There is no MKII version. The lens is pretty new. I would imagine that they will keep this one, as is, for a number of years yet, unless they release one with a MKII lens hood/cap combo which is really does need.
