I have a 7D and I tried micro adjustment about a year ago, but gave up, because the instructions were too complicated. Anyway now I found out how... well I thought I did.
Anyway my EF-S 17/55 mm f/2,8's auto focus is +4 so it needs to be adjusted.
I go into the menu, find micro adjustment, dial in -4, press set and then menu to exit - I can see that the adjustment is there in the menu, it says -4 and it's marked as the one of the settings that's active. So it should work. It also shows the changes when I enter the menu again.

BUT when I take a new picture to tjeck it it's still +4, the same if i set it to -20 or +20, turn micro adjustment off, or adjust in the adjust all lenses, both -20, 0 and +20. Nothing happens.
The same with my 50 mm f 1/4 thats +1 but nothing happens when I adjust it

Someone recommended removing the batteries for 15 min, just to see if it worked, but it didn't

The firmware is version 2.0.3

What am I doing wrong?

How did you determine the correction value? And are you saying, no matter what value you put in, the focus is not shifted at all?

My manual procedure is as follows. Put a flat object to use as target at some distance directly in front of the camera, keeping the surface flat to the camera. It should have some detail on it for the AF to pick. Next to this, put a slanted ruler so you can see along its length within the same field of view. Select a single AF point and point it to the flat target surface. For a sequence of adjustment values, take photos allowing AF to work. Review these, and look on the ruler to see where the point of sharpest focus is. As necessary, try with further values to find the best one to get the point of sharpest focus to be on the target plane.

I found a technique where you use a flat surface - i chose t box with a bar-code, so it's easier to see if it's sharp or not - and using EOS utilities, with live view. I focus on it, and when you fine focus using the < > buttons, one klick should equal 1 on the adjustment. - I hope that description makes sense.

No matter what I dial in, nothing changes.

I have also tried checking it by using live view, without having it connected to the computer.

I have it on AV or M mode

I'm getting quite frustrated about it

I have had to adjust my 70-300 its was front focusing, was fairly obvious when standing at angle of 20degrees or so to a fence and focus on one spot 4 or 5m away. The wood in front of the focus spot was in focus.
Suggest you use similar technique, stand a bit closer like 2m give or take at and angle of 20depgrees or so and see where it ends up with lens at 55.
I have tried to use various techniques indoors with targets and tripod, but its been outdoor tests that have helped me more.

Not to ask the stupid question, but you are seeing the change in micro adjust when you exit the menu and go back it, ie is it saved.

Well the AF is off, I know that. Not turned off, but it doesn't focus correct

When I go into the menu it's still there, and it's marked as it's selected, so yes it seems it saves the changes.

I just tried deleting all user settings, and it didn't help
It is marked with blue as in it being active, and it says the number I've dialed in 0, -20, +20

Yep, that's just what I did, and the "2 Adjust by lens +3" or -20, 0, +20 etc is marked with blue, as if it's the one I've selected. But the focus is still the same.

Come on, nobody knows what I'm doing wrong??

Maybe if you contacted Canon they might offer a solution, I guess no one here knows exactly what the problem is.
