Canon 5d along with the 7d. I was simply wondering if Nikon got any cameras that have features that rival those of the 5d/7d, such since HD recording, liveview function, integrated cleaning system, etc. thanking, opentext partner

HI Britnilinda welcome to the forum.

Have you looked at the review pages for the two cameras you wanted to know the Nikon equivalent about? On the verdict page Gordon compares the cameras with a Nikon equivalent and points out where each camera strengths lie.

Canon 5D Mk III vs Nikon D800
Canon 7D vs Nikon D300s

I hope the reviews will inform you more about the differences between the Canon cameras and the equivalent Nikon camera.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Nikon did not make an exact rival of the original, "classic" 5D. When the D700 arrived, it was clearly more technologically advanced than the 5D, more of a rival of the 5D Mark II. The images actually produced by the original 5D, however, were not necessarily surpassed by the D700!

The clear Nikon rival of the 7D is the D300s. They do not match each other, feature-for-feature, but the sum total of all features make these two rivals, logically. I carefully researched the differences and similarities of these two, when I bought my first new DSLR in late 2010. Cameralabs was one of my main sources! Please do see Gordon's excellent reviews!

If, by 5D, you meant the current-generation 5D Mark III, well, it is not so clear that the D800 is a rival. These are, really, two different cameras for two different purposes. The better one depends upon how, and what, one shoots. I have read compelling narratives written by photographers who own and use both 5D Mark III and Nikon D800 cameras, each for different types of photography. As I am Nikon-Canon brand-neutral, it is possible I will do the same, someday.

Some consider the new Nikon D7100 to be the new rival of the 7D. While I find the D7100 quite likable, it will not be replacing my two 7D Canons, with some features that would be a minor upgrade, but other features that would be a bit of a retrograde, or close enough so as not to really matter. I may, however, buy a D7100 for my wife, who now uses a D7000, both at work and for personal shooting, with a D70s as a back-up body.
