Things are starting to hot up again, with some recent news on Canonrumors on two upcoming announcements in June. While I don't tend to look at them too closely they're rating these high enough it might be worth a little thought.

One is the mystical mirrorless camera, but there is currently no detail at all on it.

The other is the 650D, where they have some claimed specs rated fairly highly:
18MP - not the same sensor yet again??? This would be the 5th body they stuff it into if so. I really don't think they would make a "new" 18MP sensor as it would be hard to differentiate from the old one.
9AF points, all cross type. They already have the tech from the xxD series so moving that down doesn't sound too hard. If true, this suggests a future upgrade for the xxD line too. Now this does tie in with a 7D2 rumour saying it'll get an updated AF system along the lines of the 5D3. This means they might move the current 7D AF into xxD bodies. So in part some people are right saying the 70D will be like the 7D, but it doesn't require the killing of the 7D series which can continue on an upward trend in features, and likely price too.
Touchscreen LCD - not a major deal in technology terms, but it remains to be seen if it can be put to good use.
Continuous AF in live view and video - this could be a biggie, but I will reign in my hopes and will wait and see what really happens.

Since I touched upon the 7D2 earlier, I'll wrap up with the remaining item from that rumour which is it will shoot 10fps, but there's no other details on it yet.

That'd be one of those 1 pixel sensors then. Absolutely no noise and sharp from corner to corner of the frame!

I may no longer be a Canonite, unless owning a G10 counts, but I'm really hoping that Canon makes us all go "Wow!" Hopefully not too long before we find out now, not only what the body looks like but also what lenses Canon has planned!

Being the last major player to go mirroless system, Canon better have something more than a "me too" product. The 650D rumours of continuous live view and video AF would tie in with technology that would find its way in a mirrorless camera. So to me the rumour pieces seem to fit together, but it's vague enough even Nostrodamus could haver come up with it.

I think a few people at Canon will have had to make some hard decisions over the mirrorless camera. I believe the G1X has a non removable lens because Canon didn't want the expense of designing and manufacturing a whole new range of lenses. An exchangeable lens camera with the G1X sensor would seriously impact on their entry level DSLRs. Gordon has already attested to the IQ of the G1X sensor. Nikon chose to use a smaller (2.7x) crop factor sensor with their J1/V1 cameras which in my opinion was to prevent competition with their D3xxx cameras.

Would people buy a Canon CSC camera with a sensor smaller than the G1X?

My guess is Canon have waited until all the players have played their cards and hopefully they will pitch their mirrorless camera against the EM-5 not against lesser cameras.

What I would like is an APS-C or G1X sensor in a body that looks like a retro film camera but nice and small like a GX1. Maybe a new lens system but one that allows EF lenses to be attached with an adapter and maintain aperture control.

To avoid impact on entry level DSLR sales I guess would have to be priced similarly to the EM-5 circa £1000.

Anyway they said announcement in June.. so I'm now glued to the internet for the next six weeks

So the xxxxD and the xxxD cameras do get a little bit more different - looking at the autofocus.

18MP... well... they might use the same sensor again - combined with the new processor the results might look better nontheless (*looking at this: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon ... oise.shtml ). And the 9 cross type AF points are pretty nice as well.

The 5D3 is going to become my next camera but after that I might want to upgrade my crop frame camera someday and looking at what the 650D can do I really hope for a 70D upgrade that's at least as good as this one
