got a T3i,i like ultrawide wide angle but also want to increase my focal range capabilities. I hear great things about the 10-22 but if i have the 15-85, is the 10-22 not going to be notable with the small difference between the wide angle range of the two lenses 10 and 15; just 5mm

I m concerned the overlap of 10-22 and 15-85 is waste of money and would limit my use of either.

You could do a double upgrade by selling your 15-85mm and acquiring a 10-22 and 17-55. You'd lose a bit on range if your photography could allow it. Perfect two lens of landscape\architect and portrait\low light.

That 5mm is a little deceptive.
The difference between a 200mm and a 205mm is nothing significant.
The difference between a 10mm and a 15mm is significant.

Think of this in terms of percentages.
200mm is 97.5% of 205mm.
Whereas 10mm is 66.7% of 15mm.

Tamron has a nice tool where you can see the difference in focal lengths if you want to see what you would be gaining.

There is also the Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 lens if you wanted something even wider.

I have the full frame compatible Sigma 12-24mm lens and it's quite a lot of fun (especially on my analog EOS 33). But still... if I had the 15-85mm I'd be happy with the wide angle I can get with it and invest in a tele lens first. But that's just a personal thing and not everybody has his "100-400mm lens glued onto the camera body" as some people believe I've done.

When I started buying lenses separately from the camera body, the first time I felt I had a complete, if basic set, was when I had the following:
EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM

This translates into:
A standard walk-around
A nice, fast prime
A nice telephoto

So normally I would agree that for most people, following something similar would seem logical as that would cover most uses. The 15-85mm is superior to my old 17-85mm. A nice telephoto could be the EF-S 55-250mm IS or the EF 70-300mm IS USM (not the DO or L versions). The cheapest prime is the 50mm f/1.8 II and is the easiest to justify.

However, if Uregen wants something wider, then by all means go for it. Lenses are fun. Having to chose which ones to take can be difficult at times.

Or, how about the 10-22 and the 24-105mm? Lovely combo!

If you already have the 15-85, I'd consider pairing it instead with the Sigma 8-16mm and go even wider!

Right - that's why I agreed to the 8-16mm Sigma, as I have the full frame equivalent lens, which is quite a lot of fun. Still - personally my way to that lens was different.

If everyone always had the same lenses, it would be boring.
Going different routes is what makes this forum worth asking questions on because there are a lot of different opinions and choices.
As I said, lenses are fun. Some people even enjoy what I consider to be bad lenses such as Holga.

Yes, that combination works great. Your review of the 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is probably the main reason I ended up purchasing it when someone else really wanted my 17-85mm.
A small part of me also enjoyed the fact that the review you did on it used the same camera body that I use; though it could have applied to any crop camera body.
