A minor detail but it's a common misconception that the 550D/600D and 7D have the same sensor. They have the same effective pixel count but the 7D's total pixel count is a little higher.

But is it noticeable? Or for all intents and purposes they might as well have the same sensor?

In the real world they are almost identical but for some "almost" can make a difference, which is why I think it would be more appropriate to say they are very similar or nigh on identical rather than categorically stating they are the same.

One of the issues I have with the 7d is the fact that the screan doesnt move. I like the ability to move it.

I would like to keep it very simple.. if you still hold t3i keep it , NO if you want to sell and want to definitely upgrade , then go for 7d.. i have personally handheld both 60d and 7d , the earlier was no match to me .. i own 7d and i am pretty much happy , but it perfectly suits to sports and wildlife.. you said you want to shoot more of kids , children are generally spontaneous and very hard to capture... in that sense with 8fps you can never go wrong.. you just need to fire at them.... built wise i felt 50d(my earlier darling) is much better than 60d... sometimes i feel like there is no difference between 7d and 50d.. but however i felt 7d fits better in my hand.. so individual preferences vary a lot here... NO i dont want you to come back to the original spot again.. if upgrading is inevitable for you then go for 7d and in india there is not much of price difference between 7d and 60d ... atleast where i am living... (body alone)

all the best..
