This is for a canon t3i.

It isn't a bad lens, its going to be pretty standard. Ive not used one but on a cropped sensor camera 28mm equivalent to 44mm is not very wide. Im getting the canon 60D soon with the 18-135mm 3.5-5.6 kit lens. In my opinion this would be the better lens to go for. However if you want the USM motor that the 28-135mm has I would go with the 17-85mm f4-5.6. All three lenses are roughly the same price.

Cameras: Canon Ixus 100is. 60D 17-85mm
Computer: 2008 Apple Macbook Aluminum (dreaming of a new retina macbook pro!!)
Phones: iPhone 1g And HTC Wildfire Apple iPad 3 wifi

Mine is quite good. As indicated in the first reply, 28mm is not very wide, unless one is using a "full-frame" DSLR or 35mm film. Your camera has what is termed a "cropped-frame" sensor. Teamed with a 10-22mm EF-S lens, I found the 28-135mm useful with 40D and 7D cameras. Now that I have a 5D, the 28-135mm is better able to serve as the only zoom lens for a day of walking about with just one zoom lens.

You may want to consider a zoom that starts in the 15mm to 18mm range at the wide end. I was handed an 18-135mm lens to test a 7D at a camera shop, and really liked my brief experience with it.

Do see the reviews of various zoom lenses in the Reviews section of Cameralabs! :)

Canon 5Ds R/7D2/7D/5D/40D/1D2N/M3; Nikon F6/D3s/D700/FM3A/1Dx/Coolpix A. Lens selection undergoing changes; some favorites: Zeiss 2/135 APO Sonnar, Canon 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS and 135L, Nikkor 14-24/2.8G and 24-70/2.8G.
