Grats - excellent camera body - has the nick name, Baby 7D and for good reason ;)

Enjoy it - I sure did when I was borrowing it for a day and it was one of the reasons why I decided to get the 7D (I needed higher FPS - if I didnt need the 8fps, I would have gotten the 550)

I have the 500D as my first DSLR (December 2009) and I am somewhat satisfied with it. It's perfomance and ability beats most 'point and shoot' cameras. There are so many accessories that you can get for them as well.

I wouldn't have gone for the 18-135mm lens (as main) though, I think it is too big physically. My main lens is an 18-55mm, however I understand that the kit options vary from country to country.
