I saw two 35mm 1.4L lenses yesterday; it was VERY difficult to keep my AMEX card in my pocket!

I took an XTi (400D) and several older lenses with me to the camera store, and left with the 35mm 1.4L!

Further sacrifices will happen before the AMEX bill is due; probably firearms stuff.

As for what I have my eyes on now, well, it will be quite a while, so I have plenty of time to think about it. An 85mm is still a possibility, as is a 70-200mm.

RexGig,

Which version of the 85mm?
Which version of the 70-200mm?

Also, you may want to update your sig since you apparently sold your XTi.

Was it hard to part with it?

The 85mm and 70-200mm are both to be determined later, and the 70-200mm, if acquired first, may have an effect on which, if any 85mm. Unless I become really serious about portraits, with a full-frame camera, an 85 L is unlikely. If I acquire a 70-200mm 2.8L, an 85mm may be postponed indefinitely.

A Zeiss 85mm 1.4 is a consideration; I like manual focus for some shooting.

Actually, the first XTi, with which I first started shooting serious digital photography, is still with us. I had bought a spare XTi, followed rather quickly by the 40D. It seems wise to keep one XTi for the times we want a light-weight camera. An XTi with a small lens is a joy to carry, and performs well in good light, particularly with a lens like a 50mm 1.8, but two of them seemed redundant, especially after I acquired the second 7D.

Once I've cleared my credit card, I may treat myself to a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8.

Today noon have a chance to go to local camera shop.

i mangiest to get my hand on canon EF 24 F/1.4L II USM.
at the begin i not so interest as my friend is the 1 ask for it.

when i go the chance to use it, it just blow me away of how good it is.
not only it easy to use in low light, it also sharp wild-open(f/1.4) with
a very beautiful bokeh! it pound me harder then 35L, 85L .

believe it or not me and my friend are having hard time to find distortion, even half body or in ur face pic then 35 f/14L.

now 24 f/14L and 50 f/1.2L are top wish list for next year (or so).
now my friend and i really can't wait to see 50 f/1.2L before we decide
my competed lens set. (as i only need one more). :?

if anyone here have an eye on it baby ?

KSK,
I considered the 24mm 1.4L and the 35mm 1.4L, and decided to try the 35 L first. The 24 L is still on my mind, of course, though I have a 24mm 2.8 to keep me occupied, for now, in that focal length.

@RexGig

cool to hear that. i thought u just interested in 85 and 70-200. ;)

i found out that 24 have less distortion, then 35. 0.0
on that time u should try them both. :)

still have fun with 35 f/1.4. as it also one of canon best prime lens. :)

So I've re-started looking at the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 as well....

I have my eye on upgrading to the EF 100-400mm L for airshows. However looking at the bank account, my eye probably isn't going to move for a long time...

I'd also like something with a faster aperture. I don't do a lot of low light, but I think it would be fun to experiment with, especially given the relatively low price of some fast primes. The fastest thing I have at the moment is f3.5-5.6. Right now the leading candidates are the Sigma 30/1.4 and Canon 50/1.4. Still have to decide which focal length will work better. The restrictiveness of primes scares me.

I don't really have any excellent lenses now, nor do I have bad ones. They work sufficiently for what I'm doing, no red ring or white weatherproof casing but trustworthy and high quality enough. I'm just gonna keep saving at the beginning of college and with any luck in 2 or 3 years I'll be able to expand my collection. Let's just hope my 50D is still alive then. :P

The "restrictiveness" of a prime can seem scary at first, but after you get one and really start to understand when to use it, it becomes a blessing. I generally enjoy shooting with a prime more than my zooms lately; though there is a place for both in my bag.

If you want to see if you would like it, you could either rent one, or maybe look at the 50mm f/1.8 II since it is so cheap.

I've definitely considered that, since I don't need a fast lens that often anyway it doesn't need to be great. My main focus is getting a 100-400, though.
