i just bought a canon 75-300 III USM for RM880.00 without hood and carrying lense case on 15 December 2007.

Today (20 December 2007), i went to one of other shop and found a Sigma 70-300 APO DG MACRO selling for RM750.00 including hood and carrying lense case.

I don't know much about lenses but sigma have much prettier design than canon n offered a case n hood for quite a cheaper price.

The dealer offered me to change my canon lense with the sigma lense for an additional of RM50. So should i do it?

Can anyone explain to me which one is better?

Hi Barri,

Have a look at the PhotoZone reviews of the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM and the AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG macro.

If you intend to shoot at the longer end of the telephoto range without using a tripod then the IS of the Canon may be a factor.

the one that i have is Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM. not the IS one.

So what do u think? is it worth for me to exchange it to the sigma and pay extra RM50 or just stick to what i have?

Which one is better? that Sigma or my Canon that i currently have?

I have that sigma one you mentioned. I'm not sure about the canon, but i'm really happy with the sigma. It's quite solid and focuses well. The macro funtion is also useful, focusing as close at 0.95m.

I used it 2 weeks ago to take photos at a motocross track, and it managed to get some good photos (70mm-200mm is good, though the 300mm end is less useful)

It is quite noisy when focusing though..your canon having a USM is probably quieter.

Maybe it's worth having a go with the sigma at the shop, you may find that the difference between the 2 isn't really that great. They certainly sound similar.

If you want a lense hood maybe it's cheaper to just buy a lense hood rather than swapping the lense.
