Hey guys, I was in live view mode with my 40d but I didn't have much battery left and just when I took a photo the camera shut it self of but with the mirror still flipped up.

Can this cause any damage to the camera or something ?

I'm currently recharging my battery but what will the camera do when I switch it back on ?

Please respond quickly because i'm worried sick about it.

Hi Bart,

I can't imagine this causing damage to the sensor or anything else. The one thing that I would avoid, and I'm sure you've already thought of this, is not to take off the lens right now. That in itself would not damage anything, but it could allow for unnecessary dust to enter.

I don't think you need to wait for the battery to be fully charged either. Just give it a couple minutes on the charger and then put it back in the body.

You need to keep an eye out on that charge of the battery. The camera main LCD on top.

A better solution is to get the battery grip Canon BG-EN2.

It holds two batteries plus it can be used as a special grip in itself and has a nice dial and some buttons etc to change the actual camera settings.

I use mine, as the Canon 40D is new to me, just for the extra charge holding option. I bought however, as I knew it was more than just a charge repository.

Phew, everything is fine with my 40D. Apparently the mirror did flip down before the camera shutted itself of because when I reinserted the charged battery I didn't hear the mirror flip down and I had an image through the viewfinder.

When the camera shutted itself of I looked through the lens and I thought that the mirror was up, apparently not. I probably got hallucinations because I was so worried there was something wrong with my 40D

Ah well, back to taking pictures.

Nice to hear that everything is OK and that the Canon engineers thought ahead and made plans for something like this happening.
