OK. I am going to go ahead and get the Canon 17-85mm IS. I think it will do well for what I want to do.

I still would like to get a nice sharp something-to-300mm with IS for the wildlife shots I want to do.
I think I will wait on a second lens till latter in the year when I go to Yellowstone and Glacier National Park. By then I should have more money saved for a lens that will work well for what I want.
