Post subject: XTi error 99 message

Hi all,
Just picked up my new canon yesterday. Have shot about 55-60 shots and after letting my sister in law try it, I am getting error 99. " Shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to off and on again or re-install the battery" I have tried both of these repeatedly. I am having issues getting to the canon website so any advice would be appreciated.
I wonder if I have gotten a lemon and need to return it asap or what? :?

I think that somewhere I have seen on this forum that when you get message "error 99" that you remove the lens and clean the contacts and then replace the lens and the error message disapears.. but don't take that as gospel I might be wrong most prob Gordon or Bob will verify

Thanks for the input but I have resolved my issue. After contacting Canon, I decided to return the camera to Circuit City and exchange it. I also returned my Tamron lense and bought the canon 70-300 instead. So far, so good. I really like this camera. :D

Good to hear it's resolved.

Canon lenses cost but they are worth it. Otherwise, the next option is Sigma.
