ok, so now im stuck. i was going to stick with the normal 18-55 kit lens and get a seperate zoom and 20mm w/a. now iv decided to get a 10-22mm lens which means i now cant afford the zoom. that said the final total works out a bit less than with the zoom so i can afford to upgrade the kit lens.
my mum is going to new york so this is where the camera is coming from. i have decided on the shop so the kit lens options are as follows:
18-55mm,28-135mm IS or 17-85mm IS.
the review for the 17-85 isnt great and i dont really need the wide angle end of the lens as i am going to have a seperate wide angle.
the 28-135mm lens upps the total for the camera by about $260 which seems pretty reasonable to me..

The 17-85mm isn't perfect, but it's still the best generla purpose zoom for EF-S bodies in my opinion.

But if you're already buying the 10-22mm, there'll be some overlap, so you could maybe go for the 28-135mm, and 'miss-out' on the 22-28mm range while enjoying some longer coverage at the 135mm end. I think that would be an acceptable compromise.

i was looking into the price of the 28-135 lens and the reviews that came with that are awful. iv just found out im going to be going to new york at easter next year so im going to get the 17-85lens.

no im not...im getting the 18-55 coz the 17-85 is alot more money and id rather save it and get a decent zoom next time..

If you're going for the 18-55mm, look out for a kit which bundles it with your new body - it'll be cheaper to buy it as a kit.

oh of course. i wouldnt buy that lens normally. as youv said in your reviews it comes so cheaply with the lens it would be stupid not to have it.
