Hello to everybody...
I have a Canon 400D and I've seen that Canon has released a new firmware for this model...
I'm not so good with the pc and I don't know how to update my firmware...
Can someone help me?
and over all is a good idea update the firmware of the
camera?

Thanks for your answers... :D

There are two schools of thought here:
  1. If it ain't broke don't fix it. If you are happy with the way your 400D is behaving then there is probably no need to update the firmware.
  2. Canon wouldn't have fixed it if it weren't broke. See if you can find out what changes were introduced with the new firmware compared to your current version - what is your current version by the way? Are these changes likely to be useful to you. If the answer is "Yes" then maybe a knowledgeable friend could help with the upgrade process. It isn't that difficult if you print out the instructions from the Canon web-site first.
By the way, I've moved this thread to the Canon forum because it's Canon specific and you are likely to get your best answers there.

Bob.

I have the first version of the firmware...the 1.0.4
I've no problem with the camera as it is now...but some one (in particular a lot of people in a italian site called "Canoniani.it") saids that there is an automatic underexposure of about 1 stop...
Now I don't know if it's true or how understand if my camera has this underexposure, but may be a new firmware can fix the problem...even if it doesn't exist... :D
In conclusion...may be I'm of the second thought scool...but anyway I will go on canon forum to see what they said!!!
Thanks....
P.S. There is someone who can teach me how update the firmware?

If the instructions on this page don't make any sense and your local store can't help then you can always return your camera to Canon Service who will do the update for you. I wouldn't recommend trying the update yourself unless you understand what you are doing though you shouldn't do any harm if you get it wrong unless you turn the camera off (or the battery dies) during the update.

Hello Gordon!!

Honestly I don't think that I'm able to note some differences right now...may be using the camera during next days some differences will appear...in this case, obviously,I will post my experience here...
Anyway, but is just an impression, the exposition in the automatic mode (the green one but also TV and AV) seems to be more clear (maybe 1/3 or 1/2 stop) but, I repeat it: is just an impression!!
I will tell you any thing I will note in future...
