That's just funny - Imagine paying $1000 for the the 28-135 lens.

Hi, All,
I have the Canon PS G10 (love it) but of course, it makes me really want a DLSR. I've been looking at the 50D, but now I see this new Canon which may be a better bet.
I want something that I can grow with-something challenging -and this may be it. I'll wait for the comparative reviews, as I don't have the cash right now,
But, my question is how far down do prices typically drop after the announcement of a new model? Thanks!

Prices can drop several hundred dollars but don't expect that for at least a year. the 5D mk II hasn't dropped since its release and its back-ordered. so good luck getting your hands on this camera.

I'd be looking to buy next spring most likely, whether it drops in price or not. "good luck getting your hands on this camera"? I understand there'll be a demand for it. No need to be snippy

haha sorry, i didn't realize how much attitude that post had. it didn't sound like that when i wrote it. I just mean that nobody will have it in stock for awhile.

I was watching a video about canon eos 7d and the canon guy said this is a completly new line of camera between 50d and canon 5d mark II . He did not say anything about this being the successes to canon 50d . There still is a hope!!

it's definitely $1799 as the price. cross checked at tons of real websites, (some can't be mentioned)

lets not forget bestbuy sucks, and you should never shop there.

Bit late here. Anyway from its specs are very tempting & closer to the Nikon D300s class but 18 mp & 1.6 crop factor reduction does it mean creating noise issue same did as 50D?

I've said this earlier, but the 7D appears to have slightly worse high ISO performance than the 50D up to ISO 3200. At ISO 6400 and ISO 12800, the 7D is a lot better than the 50D with ISO 12800 potentially being usable for small prints.

it might be better at 12800, but it's still absolutely horrible and unsuable in my opinion... so it really is just a step from horrific to very very bad. What matters is the performance up to 3200, and if it really falls short there, that's not very good :/

Just to clarify the question about the 28-135mm kit lens, that's just Canon USA continuing to insist on supplying this older lens as a kit option. They did it with the 50D and 40D before that. My photo and press release came from Canon USA, hence the use of that particular lens. It's an ok lens, but for me isn't wide enough for an APS-C body as a general purpose model.

It will be interesting to see the impact of diffraction at this pixel density though, and which lenses can also supply sufficient resolution...

PS - hey, any of you guys pre-ordering from Amazon, don't forget to do so via our Partner stores page! This is the only way we get paid and can continue the site!

The ISO 6400 performance is similar to the D300, but with 50% more pixels that's quite an impressive feat. If you really want high ISO performance, go FF ;)

God people care about AF Points? Manual focus or center point. I wouldn't trust any cameras AF system on auto. None are perfectly, fortunately my vision is pretty darn good, and last I checked, I had the final say on what I focused on. So if the center point can't get it, I Manual Focus it. Saying that, I rarely have to.

Hmm... This is interesting. I find that my eye will 're-focus' an out of focus image I see through the viewfinder such that I have to rely on the autofocus system to ensure a sharp picture.

- iop098.

Edit: I just grabbed my camera and put on a 50mm f/1.4 lens - My eye is just terrible for focus (or I may have a problem with the viewfinder). What I think is in focus through the viewfinder is not in focus when taking a picture even though the MF seems to be in the sharpest position.

iop098, when correctly adjusted using the little wheel next to the viewfinder, what you see should be accurate for focus. With the image in focus, the viewfinder image should look in focus at the same time as the other display features in the viewfinder.
