God people care about AF Points? Manual focus or center point. I wouldn't trust any cameras AF system on auto. None are perfectly, fortunately my vision is pretty darn good, and last I checked, I had the final say on what I focused on. So if the center point can't get it, I Manual Focus it. Saying that, I rarely have to.
Hmm... This is interesting. I find that my eye will 're-focus' an out of focus image I see through the viewfinder such that I have to rely on the autofocus system to ensure a sharp picture.
Edit: I just grabbed my camera and put on a 50mm f/1.4 lens - My eye is just terrible for focus (or I may have a problem with the viewfinder). What I think is in focus through the viewfinder is not in focus when taking a picture even though the MF seems to be in the sharpest position.
