Yeah, I normally just use the RAW Mode, but even the Dual 2Ghz Power Mac G5 is getting killed with all the 8Mp RAW images, so I decided i'd take a few test shots with RAW + L JPG...

...there is no raw file!

it gives me 2 JPG files, both the exact same size, with the same name, apart form the fact the second one has (1), but no CR2 files!

Can anyone explain this? Firmware update needed?

Hmmm, that sounds a bit odd... I actually have a 350D here, so just tried it out and in RAW + L mode, it recorded two files, both with the same name, but one is a JPG and the other is a CR2 RAW file. This is how it should operate...

This camera is running firmware 1.0.1...

Is there anyway to downgrade the firmware? or does anyone here have a 350D with 1.0.3?

Hmmm, I'm reluctant to update mine now! ANy other 350D owners here?

Daniel, have you tried reseting your camera? Maybe that could help...

My partner has the 350D, will have a look to see what firmware version she has and if ver. 1.0.3 will try to do both.

Gordon, I didn't see your last post, weird - I'll give it a go later on, not sure If I'm going out again this afternoon to take photos since right not it is pretty bright and sunny with hardly a cloud in the sky, giving me nice, clear blue skies 8)

Try reading the card from a card reader instead of using the USB connection directly with the camera. Canon's WIA XP driver does not support CR2 files properly. In fact, it specifically does not support the CR2 + JPEG combo. JPEG files seem to mask CR2 files. You can try to shoot RAW only, and then the CR2 files may show up.

Either way, using a card reader is the simplest solution.

They show up on RAW only, I'll grap a card reader from my uncles shop tomorrow and give it a whirl! Never thought Canon would make such crappy drivers....

Right Daniel, here is the info you wanted...

'er indoors Canon EOS 350D

Firmware version 1.0.3

Shot one picture using RAW + Large Jpeg

Results
IMG_0122.JPG
IMG_0122.CR2

So clearly it does work on the 350D with this firmware version.

That was using a card reader, you will probably find that if you use a card reader you will get the same results.

Yeah, I'll get one on the way home from school tonight!

I'll probably just get a USB card reader rather than one that goes inside the computer since then I can take it with me and use it at school aswell.
