Hi folks,
    Good news/Bad news/Silver Lining
Good News
The first UK stocks (not Hong Kong imports) of the EOS 40D are now available.

Bad News
While some advertised prices were comfortably below £800 before stock became available prices now seem to be between £830 and £850 (RRP £899). What a surprise.

The Silver Lining?
At least one heavy discounter, with no stock, is still advertising around the £770 mark.

I'm glad I cancelled my pre-order! I think now is a good time to sit on one's hands and wait.

Bob.

It's on sale in NZ now too, for around 850 UK pounds for the body alone...

At the current exchange rate, it costs 650 UK pounds in the USA!

Hi Roy, our Pricegrabber page lets you check availability at the major retailers, so click the following link to keep an eye on them for an indication...

http://cameralabs.pgpartner.co.uk/searc ... 47151227//

At the time I clicked, Jessops claimed they had stock, but you'd have to verify...

I think it may be the smaller retailers who get most of the early stock though...

I was going to suggest that current UK prices are a disgrace (no, on second thoughts they are a disgrace) but only the early adpters are likely to pay them.

That said, as I write, the Amazon.com 40D page is showing a price for the 40D body only as $1645 and, if you pull down the listbox, it is also offering the body together with the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens for $1500. Great business model there guys! I wonder what happened to the original $1300 price?

By the way, I see you are still having no joy on the avatar front.

Bob.

Hey Bob, I gave in to the hype and gave my name at a local store for one. I was able to trade my 30D in, for a considerable lost on what I paid, however, I think I’ll be more content.

Price in Ottawa, Canada, if anyone was interested.

Hi Roger,

Congratulations. The only seriously negative reactions I have seen so far on the Net have come from a few pixel peepers who seem to think that the 40D should somehow be achieving the image quality of a 5D despite using a cropped sensor.

I'm sure we will all look forward to your feedback when you get time. Enjoy.

Bob.

Well, doesn't the 5d have a 12.5 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor, which I think should not be comparable to the 40D.

I am looking forward in testing the difference from my 30D. I've already taken pictures of objects and sense which I’ll be taking the same pictures with the 40D. I can post them if you like, or think it would be useful information for the site.

Hi Roger, we'd love to see some shots taken with your 40D, especially if you have some comparisons against the 30D - could you post them in the User Reviews section along with any comments on what you think of it so far?

Be great to see 100% crops from a tripod-based composition taken at every ISO setting...

Hi Gordon,

Consider it done. I will take some this weekend of our Nations Capital and compare them with the 40D when I receive it.

I have a question. I know it may sound dumb to some, however, what do you mean by a 100% crop? I am a bit new at this.
