No, not true. Easily missed though as Canon's piecemeal approach to providing product information on the various national websites is bizarre.

40D UK Price Update

Most vendors in the UK are still showing Canon's RRP but RGB-tech has broken cover and is advertising a 40D body, when available, for £779.49 inclusive of VAT and delivery.

I've never dealt with them but their advertised price should be a good bargaining tool with the vendor of your choice. Hopefully for those in the Euro zone with similar rates of VAT this means the 40D should be available for a little under €1200.

Bob.

Just a little short list of dealers prices at the moment this is for the body only in the UK.

Park Cameras £875
T4 £899
Freehand £849 :)
Jacobs £900
Walters £900
Warehouse Express £899

Now here is the surprise...
RGB-Tech £769.99 + £9.50 Delivery = £779.99 :D lets hope they all fall into line with this seller

Hey Roy, are any of them estimating stock dates?

Amazon USA is showing 20th Sept, but they've been known to quote pessimistic dates in the past and bring them forward. Apparently Japan's getting it on the 31st August...

Hi Gordon,

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Until stock arrives we probably won't know the actual prices.

To take my own example, I pre-ordered by telephone with Park Cameras and specifically raised the issue of their web-site price of £899. I explained my expectation that the UK price should be under £800 and received no argument or sharp intake of breath. They also agreed that there would be no problem refunding my £25 deposit should the price be higher. The RGB-tech price I referred to in an earlier post (£780) would seem to confirm my view.

I imagine Japan will be the first country to see the 40D as, if memory serves, that is the one major market where Canon is outsold by Nikon.

Bob.

P.S. Just to emphasise the UK pricing uncertainty, Park Cameras still show the Canon RRP of £899.99 on their 40D page but the title line of the frame reads "Canon EOS 40D (£25.00 Deposit - Competitive Price £TBC)". So know we know. :?

My bad. I only saw the images that Gordon provided here. The LCD display is not noticeable in those.

Another UK retailer has broken cover with their 40D pricing. This time it's Bristol Cameras with a quote for the body of £759 (incl VAT @ 17.5%). Still no stock available but the price trend is encouraging.

While we wait for Gordon's definitive 40D review (no pressure, Gordon :!:  :) 8) ) there are some sample images from a pre-production 40D here. The full size originals are available by clicking the file name in the accompanying text box below each image.

Bob.

P.S. The 40D is now in stock in Hong Kong.

Hey guys,

I just bought a 30D not long ago, in your opinion, is it worth upgrading from the 30D?
