Hey guys,

I just bought a 30D not long ago, in your opinion, is it worth upgrading from the 30D?

Unfortunately only you can answer this. A starting point is this side-by-side comparison page. What extra features does the 40D have that you need? The table doesn't tell the full story of course. Image quality comparisons will have to wait for authoritative reviews.

If budget isn't a constraint then go for it. On the other hand the money may be better spent on a new lens or accessory.

Bob.

For what i'll be shooting i'm sure the 30D will be just fine. As for the comparison of 8mp to 10mp, would it be that noticable printing up to 10 x 12" photo's?

Thanks for your reply earlier Bob.

While the move from 8 to 10MP buys you 25% more pixels the increase in linear resolution is only 12%. I am sure that there might be some difficult subjects where the difference would be visible to the most critical eye at 10 x 12".

Maybe I could turn the question around and ask if you have found the 8MP sensor of the 30D has ever limited your ability to produce prints at that size?

Bob.

I've never actually printed a 10 x 12 yet. I've printed many 8 x 10 which i'm quite happy with, however, i haven't seen a comparison with a 10.1 mp camera. At 16% differnce, i guess if your really looking for the difference you will find it.

Now a lens question, or should I ask it in the proper forum?

Well, late night arithmetic dyslexia has struck me down again. The increase in linear resolution moving from 8 to 10MP is 12% and not the 16% I quoted in my, now corrected, previous post.

As for the lens question, I guess the proper forum is the one you think most likely to generate the needed answer. If it's for a Canon camera then I guess this is the place but perhaps you might be better starting a new thread.

Bob.

P.S. Don't let me dissuade you from buying a 40D if you want one! Mine's already on order and my pixel count won't change, though I expect them to be nicer pixels! 8)
