I am considering on buying this lens because it has a good wide angle and good zoom can anyone else give me some insight on the lens and if it is worth buying? Positives and Negative Feedback please

this lens is very flexible you get the some what wide angle you need and the zoom is respectible. the aperture is a 3.5-5.6 but its tolerable because the price is somewhat low. the picture quality is solid and precise it is very effective outside and it slighty fights to focus indoors when the lighting is poor because of the F stop. its also a MACRO so thats a plus

i love this lens it is solidly built you get a flower lens hood and a nice pouch. the weight of the lens is easy to get used to because of all the glass inside.

for $400 for a 24-135mm MACRO is worth the money if you need an all around lens, im a ametuer sports photographer and im right now taking pictures of basket ball it shoots really well upclose.

purchase this lens if you need one lens is you need it for many purposes that dont involve extreme wide angle or extreme zooms. this lens would be perfect. =]

so this lens suits very well for my needs i almost dont need to take it off and swap it for a different lens.

NOTICE: if you purchase this lens, the zoom ring may take some breaking in because it feels chunky at first but after a while you'll get used to it and gets alot smoother.

I'm looking at this lens as a walkaround for a Europe holiday in May. I was looking at getting the Canon 24-105L but the Australian dollar has sunk like a stone since then and the Ebay price has gone from $900+ to about $1400 - just too much I'm afraid.
I did use a Canon 28-135IS previously and I'm hoping to get a better lens than that for the trip. Not that I disliked the Canon (quite the opposite) but it just seemed a touch too soft at times. I'm hoping the Tamron is sharper and the bit extra at the WA would be very welcome.
Any idea whether IQ is preferable to the 28-135? As an SP I'm assuming it's very good.

I looked up the Canon 28-135mm I see it's a kit lens. Which aren't so bad in my opinion but I'd go with the Tamron because of it's built quality. My parents own a film camera with the same lens not so bad but when i attatched to my DSLR it fit but it sort of didnt feel right. But that just me.

The Tamron like i said is very flexible and solidly built. The extra 4mm in the wide angle makes a difference maybe not much but you get more out of it so its very satisfying. The Canon does not have MACRO so i think that is a downfall but the Tamron does. the Canon's pictures sometimes come out dull when i used it but the Tamrons is better in it's own ways. The Canon does have IS, mine didnt, The Tamron doesnt have IS but it is very managable.

The Tamron is perfect for a walk around lens...wideangle is there and so is the zoom and so is the sharpness of the image. If thats what you need it for then go for it you you wont regret it. I love this lens, very affordable, very flexible, solidly built, comes with a lens hood, comes with a case, has a zoom lock.
