That is interesting. Very shocking find, jitteringjr

One third of the Sigma 150-500 and 120-400 lenses we bought were defective out of the box and had to be exchanged
After reading this it looks like an authentic report of a real broad sample.
Top 5 spots for Sigma lenses, but Nikon is also up there with some lenses at 10-14% failure rate and the Nikon 70-200/2.8 VR having more than double the failure rate as the Canon equivalent.

Moral of the story?

Buy Sony!

(casually ignores the potentially minuscule number of Sony lenses sold)

Little late, but...

Just after Christmas, after getting a K20D for Christmas, I went to the mall with the wife+kids, and found a Ritz Camera store. They had a Sigma 2-lens kit (V9945 - 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC Lens plus 55-200mm) for Pentax-K mount on clearance at like $149.95, including a carry case. Bought it, took it home, and PFFFT!
Small zoom DOA. Originally, the AF worked, but it wouldn't lock - it just hunted back and forth. Then, the zoom ring froze when mounted on the K20D. Shortly after that, I couldn't see through the viewfinder - pitch black.

Took it back the next day, and the person at the store said the diaphragm was broken, as was the zoom mechanism.

Nice....

Moral of the story - you get what you pay for!

Tony
