I would like to see some photo samples before purchasing one (probably the f1.4) but I can't seem to find them anywhere on internet. Most pbase or flickr samples are from the Sony or Nikon version.

If someone has by any chance some photos taken by those lenses, I would really appreciate it if you could share some of them here.

Best Regards,
Tony

I would strictly assume that a CZ Planar ZF T* 85mm f/1.4 is equal for all mounts. So you can easily judge IQ e.g. from this review.

Thanks Thomas! Those photos look wonderful.

I would also assume the CZ Planar ZF/ZA/ZK (for Nikon/Sony/Pentax) is the same as you said. However, the Contax CZ 85/1.4 is the oldest version (some were still made in West Germany) and it's said to be softer than newer versions. I wouldn't be surprised since optical manufacture has been improved over the years.

Just curious but why would you want the Contax version? It wouldn't fit your E-1 without adapters and that kinda spoils it I think.

Also, I'm quite sure the optical design of the Sony mount CZ lenses are different from the Nikon/Pentax versions. The Sony versions are much more recent and support all the modern features like autofocus and metering.

The Contax version is more affordable.

Can I use the Nikon/Pentax version via Nikon F/M42 adapter? I see some Olympus users using the Contax version so I know it will work for sure. And why do you think an adapter will spoil it?

I thought the Nikon version also had AF.. thanks for the correction!

Well you usually lose a lot of feature when using the conversion adapter, I'm not familiar with them(or the Contax system for that matter! :D ) but it seems that most lenses are crippled this way, not in terms of IQ but with metering, AF and in some other lenses, VR/IS.

That's just my opinion though, don't let it stop you from getting a Zeiss! :D

Neither am I familar with it. I have never used a film SLR. Olympus system is a cheap DSLR solution because it takes most of legacy lenses.

I guess that's what you pay for buying old & cheap MF lenses. I'm hoping to pick up a good conditioned Contax Zeiss for about $600 while the new Sony Zeiss 85/1.4 costs like $1500. Those who buy it deserve more for sure.

Thanks for your opinion :)

chickenflavor,
the Zeiss 85mm f1.4 seems to be different from the ones for Nikon or Pentax.
read the quote from a ZEISS representative on PentaxForums.com
http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pent ... -t-zk.html

". ..
The Sony Planar T* 1,4/85 ZA (for Sony Alpha) is a totally different lens - it was specially designed for the cameras of the Alpha system. . . "

Here is the Carl Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 ZA (Sony)...

http://www.photozone.de/sony-alpha-aps-c-lens-tests/374-zeiss_za_85_14

The Sony designed is different to M42, Nikon and Pentax.

In USA the Sony version is about $1200...

in the last 5 weeks i was really interested to get the ZEISS 85mm for my Pentax K20d.

because of not seeing any results of this lens on the pentax, i purchased a Nikon85mm 1.4, together with a body D300 .
this i received one weeks ago. a lot to learn. :)

CZ 85mm f/1.4 + Sony a700 = $2300 in USA. Is a good price for its quality...
