You put that converter into the specified camera and you have wide angle added to your camera.

This one says "Converts the focal distance of the body lens by a factor of approximately 0.7x (35mm film equivalent at maximum wide angle: approximately 26.6 mm) when attached"

In this case you can put this converter in the Powershot S1 IS and get wider angle capabilities. This one is for this specific model.

can you get then for dslr's?

:o I have seen them for point & shoots but I don't remember if they are available for dslrs.
