I'm looking to get a normal -macro lens for my
Canon 450 to be used as my normal lens (with the APS-C 1.6x factor - it equals a 56mm lens). Has anyone got this lens?It's f/2.8 aperture makes it perfect for most indoor lighting shots without a flash?

I have no experience with the Tokina, but I wanna throw a couple of other lenses into the mix: The Canon 35mm f/2 and The Sigma 30mm f/1.4. You should consider these as well. Compared to these, the f/2.8 on the Tokina is actually not that bright

Yes but the Tokina is a 1:1 macro lens. It depends what you're looking for

Do you really need a 1:1 macro at 35mm? The working distance is going to be pretty challenging at that point.

If you don't really need that much of a macro, the Canon 35/2 is a good balance as it offers up to 0.23x magnification.

I know this is an old thread, but wanted add that I do not find 2.8 to be all that great for indoor use. I much prefer a 1.4 or 1.8 that can be stopped down a bit. If a lens has f/2.8 as a maximum aperture, it would have to be very good wide-open to perform well at f/2.8. Most lenses are not at their best wide-open.

If macro ability is not a necessity, the Nikkor 35mm f/2 AF is quite well-reviewed, and has been praised as doing quite well when used wide-open. This one is on my short list now that I recently acquired an F6, as film cameras benefit from faster glass more so that digital cameras, which have adjustable ISO.

I just realized I used Nikon as an example, when the topic concerns Canon.



The principles are the same of course, and I do believe Canon makes a 35/2. My Canon EF 35 1.4L is often used at f/2 indoors. Smaller than f/2 is mostly for night shooting, or when a very shallow depth-of-field is the goal.
