I cannot decide between the two lenses and was wondering if anyone new about build quality and image quality and which you may prefer.

Hi Tom,

A warm welcome to the CameraLabs forums.

I don't have any experience with either lens bit both have been reviewed at PhotoZone while fitted to the same camera (an EOS 350D/Rebel XT). Check out this review of the AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC macro and this review of the 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS. Hope this helps.

Bob.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for that, I have had a brief look over the review, I have a small concern about the 18-200's slow apeture at full telephoto however I like the versitility, but i don't think I can make a decision yet!
Thanks for the fast reply Bob,
Tom

I was in a somewhat dilemma - go Nikon 18-200 VR or Sigma's equivalent.

Bob was kind enough to post a link to this review as well.

The bokeh on this lens appears to be rather dreadful - at least that's how I see it. I like portrait photography and bokeh can be rather important doing that.

I've disqualified the Sigma on that alone - even if it is a couple of hundred $ less expensive than Nikon's.

Now if I could just find a bank that's easy to rob so I can afford the Nikon..lol.
