Hi Folks,

I'm looking a best telephoto lens set up for birding and cannot decide between few options, my budget is max $1250.

My options are:

1, Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 OS APO DG HSM CONV (I can even add TC) but IQ seems to be average
2. Nikkor AF 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D IF ED VR (100mm less reach to 500mm) at 400mm IQ seems to be average
3. Sigma 100-300mm f/4 APO EX DG HSM + 1.4 TC = (140-420mm f/5.6) but no OS and 80mm less reach to 500mm, but considerably better IQ than above lenses at f/5.6

Please suggest how important is 500mm reach, VR/OS and f number for bird photography as I never tried anything above 300mm.
Any suggestions are appreciated in advance

I Own:
Nikon D300
Lenses from 10mm to 500mm
