Is Camera Labs planning to do reviews on the 17-70 f2.8-4.5 macro? If it was compared to the Tamron SP AF 17-50 f2.8, that would br great. I've got a 24 70 f2.8 macro, witch is great but big and heavy and not particularly wide.
Cheers
John

Hi John, welcome to the Camera Labs forums!

We intend to test more Sigma lenses in the future and would like to guage interest in which models would be most popular. I'm personally keen to test the 10-20mm ultra wide and the new 180-200mm OS when it becomes available. You've cast a vote for the 17-70mm.

Which Sigma lenses would everyone else like to see tested?

Gordon

I'd like to see the 10-20mm tested . It is one of two lenses I've been thinking about along with the 50mm Nikkor f1.8.

Hi Thomas, great to hear you've got your 10-20mm Sigma - I think we'd all be very interested to hear what you think of it.

I'm hoping to get hold of one very soon. In the meantime, Canon owners wanting an ultra-wide may be interested to check out our Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens review at: www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon1022EFS/

I'll be very interested to see how the Sigma compares...

Gordon

At least one thing is clear already: The size of the Sigma is 83.5x81mm and it weighs 470g, whereas the Canon is 84x90mm and weighs in at 385g. So the Canon is 10% longer (which coincidentally is equivalent to the longer 22mm focal length) but weighs almost 20% less than the Sigma although it has the larger aperture with 3.5-4.5 against 4.0-5.6. Would be interesting to understand where the weight of the Sigma comes from :?:
Price difference: Sigma is around 30% cheaper than the Canon.
Filter: both have 77mm filter-threads
Build quality: The Sigma is notorious for delivering some very high quality copies of the 10-20mm and then letting people down with the optical quality of other copies.
Will be interesting to see what the quality of Gordons and my lens is. Hello out there! Anybody with personal experience with the Sigma with regard to pic quality :?:
