I just sold my Canon kit lens and I'm in doubt about these lenses.

What can you tell me about them?

Also, I'm thinking about the new 17-70mm, but beetween these two, which is better?

I'll shot portraits for personal books, family books, etc...

Canon 50D
Canon 28-135mm IS USM
Sigma 50mm F2.8 DG Macro

Both are regarded as excellent lenses, although since you have a cropped body the 18-50mm might be a better option. You should also consider the Tamron equivalent 17-50mm.

Samsung GX-10, , SA 18-55mm
Canon 5D Mark II, 40D, EF 17-40mm f/4 L, EF 24-105mm L IS, EF 50mm f/1.4
