We just purchased the Tamron 28-75mm and it has pretty much the same fast autofocus and tack sharp picture taking ability as the Tamron 17-50mm we previously owned.....and that is saying alot, great job Tamron!!

I've heard good things about this lens. Do you notice the lack of IS/VR?

it does not matter especialy because it is wide and in D700. Just bump the ISO to compensate.

In practical shooting, I don't notice the lack of IS/VR. This is a tremendously great lens for the price!
