Hi,

Sorry for mass of topics on different lenses, but I keep finding new lenses and possibilities.

I've had a little go of the Sigma 70-300 in my local shop, I must say it felt quite good. However we did have a little trouble with the macro setting, it kept getting stuck in macro position. Is this a common thing? Or was the one I tried a defect?

Does anyone own one? Have any sample pictures?

This from a user report for the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro elsewhere on the Net:

The focussing mechanism uses a rotating (and extending) barrel. This causes problems when changing between normal and macro focusing ranges. In order to switch to macro, the lens must be within the 200mm-300mm range and to switch back to normal you must be focussed on a distant target. This can either be achieved using the auto focus or by flicking to manual. Either way it is a bit awkward.

Do you think that was the problem?

Hi,

Yeah it was, I had read about this on the internet and I knew what to do when it got stuck. But I didn't know if it was just with select models.

I've also been looking at the Sigma 18-200 F3.5-6.3 DC that Gordon has reviewed, turns out I might be able to get a part-exchange on my 18-55 Kit lens and get this lens alot cheaper than the £220 retail price. I also know the owner, so he might knock a little off if i'm lucky.
