Love that pheasant, Carlos...gorgeous bird that I'd love to see living in my area!

Got out to the wetlands finally with the new camera...weather was mostly sunny, so I had decent light to get some closeups and in-flight shots with the 300mm F4 & 1.4x TC.

Here's a tricolor heron, up close:

awseome, you would have to be happy with those.
So is the new camera much better, I didn`t think there was much in it, in the specs at least?

Thanks Max. It's noticeable in a few areas: 1. the build and design have been improved a bit, which make some controls more fluid, and others better placed. 2. High ISO has definitely been improved - almost a full stop - more importantly there's more detail retention with slightly less noise at ISO1600 & 3200, which make them quite usable without post processing, whereas ISO3200 in lower light needed a little touchup on the last camera. 3. Focus speed and focus points improved - makes it a better focus tracker. 4. The extra resolution is actually usable - leaving more cropping room and improving printability on crops.

Along with the additions of focus inmain sensor live view, and the most-excellent multistack ISO mode, it's a very nice evolution.

Looks like a pretty good catch, Dete. I'd love to see one myself.

Carlos - nice starling - the colors do indeed look very vibrant - much as those birds are thought of as pests, I find them quite beautiful.

I had fun yesterday with the A580 out in my usual wetlands birding areas - light was gorgeous, selection of birds is getting amazing as we enter winter migration time, and the good-old Minolta 300mm F4 lens worked its magic:

I started with Daggerwing, a small park near my house which is usually pretty sparse but was rumored to have a kestrel hanging out there lately. Sure enough, the kestrel was there, easy to spot on a lookout tree in nice light:

Moving on to Green Cay Wetlands, the usuals were still there. Light was nice at 2-3pm, with the winter hours and earlier sunset.

Green heron:
Image

I wrapped up by going to Wakodahatchee Wetlands, which had been closed for a few weeks to clean up the trails/boardwalks. The good news is that the birds didn't mind the cleanup and stuck around or came in for winter...it was jam-packed.

Another green heron:

Tricolor heron:

I believe this is a red-shouldered hawk - sitting high on top of a tree and watching the wetlands:

Thanks Justin.
Some wonderful pics on this thread.

A couple, of black headed gulls.

Lift off.

Very strong light, so converted to B&W. I quite like the almost `see through` wings & charcoal feel to it.
